Vanilla Crescents (Vanillekipferl)

A classic austrian cookie recipe for christmas season – delicious and easy to make

  • 270 g Flour
  • 210 g Cold Butter
  • 100 g Ground Almonds
  • 70 g Powdered Sugar
  • 8 g Vanilla Sugar
  • 1 Pinch of Salt
  • Powdered Sugar For Sprinkling


  • Mix flour with butter, almonds, powdered sugar, salt and vanilla sugar, and knead until a smooth dough forms. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for 1-2 hours.
  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan oven).
  • Form a roll from the dough and cut it into 1-2 cm thick slices. Form small crescents and lay them on baking paper on a baking tray and bake for 12-16 minutes until they turn golden on the edges.

  • Roll the warm cookies in powdered sugar (if the cookies are still warm the sugar will stick better on them).
